Bernal Heights

Dense and steep with views to climb for.

Bernal Heights is just the other side of Mission Street and straight up. It is denser and without the fancy Victorians of Noe Vally. A bit grungier and slightly more affordable than Noe Valley, it still supports wonderful stores and restaurants on Cortland Ave where it shows a bit of the old hippie high street combined with updated tastes. But the crown jewel, from my perspective, is the view from Bernal Heights Park. You can see the bay and the grid of the Mission all the way to downtown. The highways snake away to the more industrial side of SF looking south with a bird’s eye view of the incoming weather.
